About
After extensive research and worrying numbers of women under the age of 50 experiencing breast diseases, Lynn Southwell decided something needed to be done to address this problem.
It is estimated that one woman in eight is now expected to have breast cancer during her life time, yet breast cancer in many instances is a metabolic illness which is preventable. At Breast of Health we look to educate, inform and encourage women to take responsibility for their own health. If you have an understanding of the risk factors and know what to look for you can help to reduce your risk, prevent the worry and anxiety and enable you to understand why nutrition and a healthy life style will help give to the longevity and vibrant body you wish to have.
Education and empowerment of breast health issues are key to our understanding of prevention rather than cure.
Presently Digital Thermal Imaging for breast screening is not available in the UK as a Charity. There are approximately eight Meditherm Systems privately in use in the UK. The breast screening programme available for women in the U.K. is currently only mammography for 50+ age groups, unless a patient is referred earlier by their GP and symptoms have been recognised.
According to (www.cancerhelp.org.uk) 45,000 women are diagnosed each year) and there is no provision for early detection or a screening programme available for men. For this reason we are passionate about providing this service for women and especially for women under the age of 50 where no screening is available unless the individual goes privately or is referred by a doctor where a problem has been discovered.
Lynn discovered that this Meditherm Digital Thermal Imaging Breast Screening programme is especially suitable for women whose denser breast tissue makes it more difficult for mammography to be effective. This specific type of screening provides a ‘clinical marker’ for the doctor or mammographer indicating a specific area that may need closer examination.
Breast screening is a way of finding breast disease, like cancers early, when they are too small for a patient or doctor to see or feel. According to Cancer Backup in the UK, around 1 in 9 women will develop breast cancer at some time in their life. As a nurse and passionate practitioner Lynn decided to take action and decided to purchase Meditherm Digital Thermal Imaging camera and invested time and energy to become a qualified practitioner.
At Breast of Health we believe women deserve the opportunity to make informed choices about their health.
